A rainbow baby is a baby born after a miscarriage, stillborn, or neonatal death. It is called a rainbow baby because it is like a rainbow after a storm: something beautiful after something scary and dark.
Genevieve is my rainbow baby. So when she became very sick at five months old, seemingly for no reason, it was a big hit. Then, at seven months, she almost died. Thankfully we saw the right doctor at the exact right time, landed in the right hospital at the exact moment her body gave up, and they were able to keep her stable long enough to figure out what was wrong. After two excruciating weeks in the hospital, we brought home a perfectly healthy, happy baby.
I made this colorway for her a couple weeks later. Even if we hadn't been through so much with a miscarriage and her illness, Miss G is most definitely a rainbow...happy, silly, loving, and fun.
