Who doesn't know the story of the Wizard of Oz? Chronicling the adventures of a young farm girl named Dorothy in the magical Land of Oz, she and her pet dog, Toto, were swept away from their Kansas home by a cyclone. The book is one of the best-known stories in American literature and has been widely translated.
The movie adaptation is 80 years old this year and just as entertaining today. The original movie was in black and white but, due to the wonder of technicolor, the movie has been brought to life.
This variegated colorway, with shades of yellow, green, and reddish plum, is inspired by a group of Munchkins in Munchkinland, who welcomed Dorothy to Oz with song and dance upon her arrival in the 1939 movie. Since then they have also appeared, and been referenced, in other Oz-related sources.
