A Thestral is a breed of winged horses with a skeletal body, face with reptilian features, and wide, leathery wings that resemble a bat's. They are very rare, and are considered dangerous by the Ministry of Magic. Thestrals are, undeservedly, known as omens of misfortune and aggression by many wizards because they are visible only to those who have witnessed death at least once or due to their somewhat grim, gaunt and ghostly appearance.

I find thestrals to be quite fascinating.  If they are so classified, why are they used to carry students to and from the Hogwarts Express?  And what’s the motivation behind people only being able to see them if they’ve seen death?  It’s quite morbid, and when Harry sees them for the first time and Luna explains what they are, my heart breaks...for both of them.  This artwork shows the majesticness of the beasts, flying through the beautiful, cloudy sky, with seven Harry Potter’s upon their backs.

Yaks roam some of the world's most severe conditions high in the Himalayan Mountains. To survive the cold winters at altitude, they grow several coats -- and it is the softest "down" fibers that you will find in Babel. Merino is blended with the yak down in this yarn to make this rare luxury fiber affordable, with a hint of silk to add some sheen. This yarn renders our dyes deep and heathered for a truly refined rustic look. Available in all of our solid, semi-solid, and variegated colorways.
